Pediatric tubes are specifically designed for use in children, who are among the most sensitive patient groups. These tubes are produced in different shapes and sizes to match various pediatric age groups and ensure a gentle, minimally painful blood collection experience. Pediatric tubes are used in all pediatric blood sampling procedures.
Pediatric Tubes for Newborns
Micro-needles are specially designed for newborns. They are extremely safe and feature a ridged grip. Their short structure minimizes the volume of unusable blood. These micro-needles are paired with specialized tubes that are either capped or stoppered, and are ideal for collecting the smallest blood samples.
Blood Collection in Toddlers
Tubes designed for toddlers may have a cylindrical or conical shape. A single product can support three collection methods:
End-to-end capillary collection
Edge-tip blood collection
Tube-based collection
Pediatric Tubes for School-Aged Children
These tubes are specifically designed for school-aged children and are optimized in size to reduce anxiety and improve comfort. Blood collection in this group is typically done via the aspiration technique, which provides an effective solution to challenges like hard-to-find veins in pediatric patients.

How Is Blood Drawn from Infants?
Healthcare staff must be experienced in neonatal blood collection. The procedure room must be sterilized in advance. A parent or guardian should accompany the infant during the procedure. If they have no questions, the procedure is briefly explained.
The infant should be placed in a comfortable and calming position. For neonates, blood is typically drawn from the heel or earlobe, while for older infants, the finger tip is used. After cleaning with alcohol and allowing the area to dry, a single puncture is made. The first drop of blood is wiped away, and subsequent drops are collected using pediatric tubes.
Tips for Blood Collection in Children
Ask the child if they want to watch the procedure or be distracted
Parents can help by drawing attention away while the nurse collects the sample
It’s helpful for parents to explain the procedure beforehand in reassuring terms
Let the child count to three and take a deep breath to relax
Avoid saying “it will be from your hand” to prevent expectation anxiety
